After their son Carson became diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the Cooper family founded Kids Living Brave in 2011.
“When you hear the words ‘your child has cancer’ your whole world changes and nothing stays the same from that moment on for the entire family,” the Cooper family said. “You begin to adapt to your ‘new normal.’”
Kids Living Brave supports kids in Iowa with cancer and their families, creating a sense of community through emotional support, community awareness and educational outreach.
According to Kids Living Brave, the goal is to capture and convey the wisdom and experiences of past and current patients, families, doctors, and staff to help bridge the gap of isolation.
Throughout the year, Kids Living Brave hosts fundraisers and events such as blood drives, softball and dodgeball tournaments, races and trips to various places.
Kids Living Brave also accepts donations to supply the brave baskets, which includes items such as visa cards, band aids, thermometers, essential oils and candy.
The KLB website also sells shirts and wristbands.
